A local’s guide to dining in downtown Providence

Dinner before the show (PPAC & the Amica Center)

If you’re catching a show at the Providence Performing Arts Center or a game or concert at the Amica Mutual Pavilion (also called the Amica Center), the smart move is dinner first, then a short walk. We’re two blocks from PPAC and about five minutes from the arena doors — close enough that you never have to move the car.

For a 7:30 curtain, book a table around 5:30–6:00. That leaves room for guacamole made at the table, birria, or our handmade mole — and a margarita you can finish without rushing. The pre-show rush is real downtown, so reserving a table beats walking in on show nights.

Breakfast & lunch in the middle of downtown

Downtown isn’t just a dinner neighborhood. We open at 11am (see our breakfast & lunch menu), and we’re right across from the Rhode Island Convention Center — handy if you’re here for a conference and tired of convention food. Office workers from around Kennedy Plaza come in for plates our kitchen cooks the same way at every meal, from morning through close.

The bar question: margaritas & mezcal near the arena

A lot of people search for a bar near the Amica Center before or after a show. Our full bar is one of the reasons to make the walk: fresh-squeezed margaritas and one of Rhode Island’s deepest tequila and mezcal selections. Browse the drinks list before you come, and ask the bar what’s new — the mezcal shelf changes.

Parking downtown without circling the block

Downtown Providence parking is easier than its reputation. We have a partnership with Civic Center Parking, so you can leave the car nearby and walk over — mention it when you arrive. Feeding a group downtown
